Traditional Folk Intangible Culture Heritage of China
(Host part: China Volkssport Association and Chinese Folk Literature and Art Society)
China officially recognizes 56 ethnic groups, the largest of which is the Han Chinese. Many of the ethnic minorities maintain their own culture and language, although many are also becoming more like the Han Chinese. Han Chinese predominates most areas of China with the exception of Tibet and Xinjiang where the Han are still in the minority. Geographically speaking, the ethnic groups distributed in different parts of China with the resulting difficulty of experiencing the architecture of each ethnic group, their brilliant festivals, their performance, local snacks and so on.
There is also some that have not been officially recognized. The group numbers more than 730,000 people, and would constitute the twentieth most populous ethnic group of China if taken as a single group. The vast majority of this group is found in Guizhou Province.
Each ethnic group has their special culture, which is constantly recreated and mainly transmitted orally. At present, assimilation with Han nationality is making the minorities culture die.
