Han Culture of China
Han Chinese is the largest single ethnic group in the world. It constitutes about 92 percent of the population of China and about 19 percent of the entire global human population. There is substantial genetic, linguistic, cultural and social diversity between the various subgroups of the Han, mainly due to thousands of years of immigration and assimilation of various regional ethnicities and tribes within China.
Han China is one of the world's oldest and most complex civilizations. Chinese culture dates back to thousands of years. Throughout the history of China, Chinese culture has been heavily influenced by Confucianism, Buddism and Taoism. Credited with shaping much of Chinese thought, Confucianism was the official philosophy throughout most of Imperial China's history, and mastery of Confucian texts provided the primary criterion for entry into the imperial bureaucracy.
Han Chinese has played a major role in the development of the arts, sciences, philosophy, and mathematics throughout history. Many mountains and rivers of China are famous owing to the development of Han culture. There are four sacred Mountains of Buddhism in China, including Mt. Wutai in the north, Mt. Jiuhua in the south, Mt. Putuo in the east, Mt. Emei in the west. These mountains represent the most sacred in Chinese Buddhist beliefs. They are wonderful places to visit not only to hike and experience Chinese nature, such that it is, but also to experience the renaissance of Chinese Buddhism.
