Grassland of China
There were rich grassland resources in China, with 390 million hectares of natural grassland of various kinds, including temperate steppe in Inner Mongolia, high-cold steppe in the Qiangtang plateau, alpine meadow in Tibetan Plateau,etc. Grasslands in China mainly distribute in arid and semi-arid regions include 398 counties (banners, cities) in 12 provinces (areas) such as Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shangxi, Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang. But most of the grassland in China has degraded or is degrading. At present, the largest grass area in China is located in Inner Mongolia, including Hulun Buir Grassland in the notheast of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which is one of the three most famous prairies in the world.
As the birthplace and burial place of Genghis Khan, who is one of the greatest military leaders in China, Inner Mongolia is famous for its wide and beautiful grasslands, which is a main spring of the culture of Ancient China and a habitat of northern minorities of China.
